What this does not measure

  • Heading order and the number of H1s are not Google ranking requirements. Several H1s or a jump from H2 to H4 are reported as observations, and the tool gives no score.
  • It reads the source HTML. Headings a script adds after load are not in the source and are not listed.
  • It cannot see CSS. A heading hidden with a stylesheet is listed as if it were visible; only the hidden and aria-hidden attributes are detected.
  • It does not judge whether a heading describes its section well. That is an editorial call, and it is yours.

Paste a page and we list every H1–H6 in the order the source HTML has them, with each level and its text. Several H1s and skipped levels are shown as observations: Google does not require a heading order or a single H1.

How to read the results

  • The list is the outline. Headings appear in source order and are indented by level, so you can read the page the way a screen reader user skims it.
  • H1 count is a fact, not a grade. One H1 is common and several are fine. What matters is that each heading describes the content under it.
  • A level jump (an H2 followed by an H4) is not a ranking problem. It can make the outline harder to follow with assistive technology, so fix it when it is an accident.
  • An empty heading has no text and no image alt. It is usually a template leftover, and it is the observation most worth removing.
