Keyword research

Seed a market, filter the result set, then save phrases worth tracking in Ranks.

You expand from a seed, not an exact match. Filters throw rows away before you spend on research.

Step by step

Step 1. Enter the seed keyword

How to use it: Type the topic to expand from — for example “seo tools”. You get the market around the phrase, not only that exact string.

Step 1 — Enter the seed keyword

Step 2. Set country and language

How to use it: Use the country and language boxes (such as us and en). Volumes and difficulty always match that market.

Step 2 — Set country and language

Step 3. Choose source mode

How to use it: Pick Suggestions, Related, or another source. Turn on Questions when you want how/what phrases people ask assistants.

Step 3 — Choose source mode

Step 4. Filter volume and difficulty

How to use it: Set Min/Max volume and difficulty, or leave them blank for no limit. Use word counts to split head terms from long tail.

Step 4 — Filter volume and difficulty

Step 5. Narrow with Includes, Excludes, Intent

How to use it: Force substrings, drop competitor brands, or pick an intent (transactional, informational, and so on) before you run.

Step 5 — Narrow with Includes, Excludes, Intent

Step 6. Research and save

How to use it: Press Research to fill the table. Refresh repeats the same query. Tick rows and use Save selected to send winners to rank tracking.

Step 6 — Research and save

When a number looks wrong

  • A research run covers many rows — filters keep you inside one useful batch.
  • Missing provider data reads not available — never 0.
